David Robert Mitchell (b. 1974) is an American film director and writer. He graduated from Florida State University with an MFA in Production. He started getting recognition after directing his second feature, the horror film It Follows. His latest film Under the Silver Lake was premiered in the competition programme of the Cannes Film Festival 2018.
Under the Silver Lake is a down-the-rabbit-hole movie, at once gripping and baffling, fueled by erotic passion and dread but also by the code-fixated opacity of conspiracy theory. The movie is impeccably shot and staged, with an insanely lush soundtrack that’s like Bernard Herrmann-meets-Angelo-Badalamenti-on-opioids.
